TÜBİTAK BİLGEM and the Presidency of Defence Industries have decided to cooperate to carry out the Kinematic Heat Flare Ammunition Development Project. Within the scope of the project signed on March 07, 2023, the development of a heat flare that is disposable and can provide protection against infrared threats will be developed.
Heat flares are intended to confuse the targets of heat-seeking missiles by burning at high temperatures and burning with the amount of infrared energy emitted by aircraft engines or exhaust gases. Kinematic Heat Flares are heat flares with an additional propulsion device or wings to simulate mobility.
Thanks to their special equipment, heat-seeking missiles can detect targets by focusing on the infrared energy emitted by air, sea and land vehicles, and thus can track and destroy their targets. Within the scope of the project, Kinematic Heat Flares will be produced to protect air platforms. In this way, air vehicles used for defense purposes will be protected more effectively.
Aerodynamic heat flares will travel along a similar route to increase the effectiveness of the countermeasure, taking into account the separation rates of the heat flares from the air platforms.
With this project, for the first time in Turkey, the Kinematic Heat Flare will be developed using indigenous and national capabilities. In addition, the R&D studies of the product to be developed will be specific to the platforms in our inventory. In this way, Turkey's foreign dependency in the defense industry will be eliminated.
