Today, the food industry is returning to natural foods from processed products due to consumer demand for foods that are recognized as healthy foods. Bee pollen is known as a natural superfood due to its indispensable nutritional and medicinal properties. However, the physico-chemical and functional properties of bee pollen vary greatly depending on the botanical and geographical origin.
The aim of the project is to design an artificial intelligence-based classification machine to obtain single plant pollen (monofloral) from mixed pollens. In obtaining standard single plant pollen, it is aimed to classify according to color and therefore to benefit from deep learning techniques. By obtaining standard single plant pollen, bee pollen with a largely stable content will have wider usage possibilities in fields such as food, medicine, pharmacology and cosmetics. With this project, it is aimed to benefit more from the country's potential by promoting pollen production by beekeepers, and to create the necessary technical infrastructure, including training, for correct, sustainable and hygienic pollen production at certain standards.
When the project is completed successfully, it is expected that there will be a significant increase in demand both from the domestic and abroad, especially the EU countries, both for the developed pollen sorting machine and for the defined and standardized single plant pollen after being harvested under hygienic conditions.
