Developing robust and reliable artificial intelligence (AI) systems involves fundamental challenges such as understanding people, adapting to complex real-world environments, and interacting appropriately in complex social environments. The overall vision is to facilitate AI systems that enhance human capabilities, while at the same time empowering individuals and society while respecting human freedom and individuality. For the development of such systems, breakthroughs are required at the interfaces of various fields such as human-computer interaction, cognitive science, social sciences, and complex systems, which will not only replace traditional AI systems. The HumanE-AI-Net Project brings together a community with expertise in these areas.
The vision of the project is based on ethical values and trust (Responsible AI). These values are closely related to the impact of AI on society, which includes the complex dynamic interactions between networked AI systems, the environment, and humans. Therefore, in the content of the project, key gaps in knowledge and technology with respect to core AI issues are addressed in three closely related areas: 1) Learning, reasoning and planning, 2) Multimodal perception of dynamic real-world and social environments, 3) Mixed human -human-friendly collaboration and co-creation in AI environments. The HumanE-AI-Net Project aims to develop human-centered and responsible artificial intelligence systems by focusing on these challenges and adopting a multidisciplinary approach.
