Cloud Computing and Big Data Research Laboratory (B3LAB) Project was initiated in 2013 under the leadership of TÜBİTAK BİLGEM Information Technologies Institute (BTE) and with the support of the Investment Program of the Turkish Ministry of Development, basing on the needs of Turkey and the current developments around the world in Cloud Computing. The project aims to provide the necessary ground for the formation of infrastructure in Cloud Computing and Big Data. Cloud Computing and Big Data technologies manage the vast amount of data produced by various resources and provide cost and workforce efficiency by centralizing the online services that are increasingly becoming prevalent.
B3LAB is focused on research in Cloud Computing and Big Data, and aims to provide training and consultancy to the concerned institutions in these technologies. One of the main purposes of the laboratory is to pioneer the production of domestic products that are based on open source technologies and that can serve public needs. By the established infrastructures, acquired knowledge and consultancy services, B3LAB plans to construct a model for the transition to a national public cloud and to contribute to the data analytics towards the extraction of meaningful information for public welfare. Additionally, providing domestic solutions for critical fields like privacy and cyber security, encouraging the growth of qualified researchers, enlarging ecosystem and potential markets and contributing for the construction of nation wide standards and regulations for cloud computing and big data are within the primary objectives of the laboratory.
